SIGHTINGS

i went to city bakery with cami today and in our three-hour sitting, we saw jimmy fallon pass by and mariska hargitay of law and order svu being filmed for an episode. jimmy triggered my memory of the flaming lips concert he had opened for and "idiot boyfriend." hargitay was crying for realz and walking back and forth, but our eyes kept following her, we couldn't look away!

BEST BERFDAY EVA

turned 20 yesterday and it was a glorious day of good eats and friends. it started with lunch at momofuku ssam bar (korean and v. minimalist restaurant) with justine and cherie. i had a korean burrito with pork, sticky rice, and kimchi that was soo good. justine talked some ibanking stuf, the latest happenings on her life. cherie revealed her disinclination towards retail after discovering that she would have to close late ("no") and work weekends ("no"). we went to little pie company in the meatpacking district for dessert and justine got me a really tasty german chocolate cupcake. she had this black spot on her arm that turned out to be a LIQUID NITROGEN burn. someone had sprayed liquid nitrogen on her for fun! but she's plotting her revenge. afterwards we started walking along the river only to discover BAND IN A BUBBLE brainchild of mtv. they tempted us with free dr. peppers and kept telling us to talk to the BAND IN A BUBBLE but they were busy recording we think. cherie wanted to convince them to write a song about us but alas, it was not the time. when she heard of it, she thought they would be underwater so there was quite some confusion as we tried to grasp the concept of this BAND IN A BUBBLE. apparently they will remain in this bubble that is more like an igloo for two weeks recording music and will emerge to perform a concert by the end of it. anyway, enuf about this BAND IN A BUBBLE.

plan for the night was to have dinner at this brazilian restaurant on ave. a called samba-le and then room 4 dessert, which i had read about in the ny-er. namsters, hubot, wendy chi, sofia p-p, toby/xing, wendy li, esther jang, and cami kept me company and it was pure blisss. since it was a wednesday night, we had the small restaurant somewhat to ourselves. on our walk towards room 4 dessert, sofia p-p pointed out FRED ARMISEN OF SNL FAME walking in front of us with his girl. they were going to the whole foods on 2nd ave. when we got to cleveland place, we found room 4 dessert closed for the week since memorial day but WILL GOLDFARB CHEF of the place was there to apologize for not being able to accomodate us. i mentioned the article and he told us not to believe everything we read. he was wearing pomo glasses and looking impressive. slightly disappointed, we went to chinatown for some bubble tea and ice cream instead. i got home and had trouble sleeping, i was so happy.
